The big give.

If you are and avid ABC viewer, you will no doubt come across rampant promos for their philanthropic meets reality tv show, The Big Give. The show, produced by Oprah Winfrey, follows a group of people each giving away huge amounts of cash to deserving folks who could use the extra cash to fulfill a dream, to ease a payment or to get through some tough times.

It's an ambitious experiment. But it works. At this point, the "givers" are not working towards a prize. They do know, however, is that they will be judged for their performance on tasks during the duration of the "tour". At the end of each task, they will be given an envelope that may contain a plane ticket for the next leg of their tour. This will go on until there is one final "giver" and at the end, Oprah will award the winner with some of her own cold hard cash.

No doubt, this show turns out the waterworks. It's pretty inspirational to see these huge gifts being given...but it somehow takes away from the small things that can be inspirational as well. We all can't have cameras follow us around as we do things for other folks selflessly. That's just not going to happen.

But if it helps out philanthropic orgs and causes...then all the better.
