Hot 97 vs. Imus.

Here's my thoughts on a random Facebook rant...

She is the sole reason why I haven't had Hot 97 on my dial since that incident.

Now that I'm in the advertising industry, it is easy to see why she is still on the air and Imus was kicked off. She has not become a liability to anyone. Imus had a nationally syndicated show that attracted millions of listeners and viewers everyday, generating millions of dollars in advertising and profit for Viacom.

With the high profile of the incident, corporate had a good shot at losing all that revenue; plus the bad press could reach out to their other media properties by advertisers pulling out. It's all about business.

As for Miss Jones, sad to say, but her racism and ignorance against Asians was very much swept under the rug. I did not see Al Sharpton call for her resignation.

Let's face it, Asian Americans are not the most highly regarded in contemporary American media. - Me.

*FYI - A few years back, Miss Jones' morning show on Hot 97 showcased "The Tsunami Song" after the horrible disaster that devastated parts of Asia. (I will not link to the song or reproduce the lyrics here.) She, and the resident Asian "straight woman" to Miss Jones' antics was Miss Info, a regular VIBE magazine contributor, straight up got into it. This only lead to Miss Info refusing to participate in the show and Miss Jones getting a slap on the wrist by the parent company of Hot 97, Emmis Communications.

Goes to show that race relations in this country still have a very long road ahead.
