Sitting here at work when I should actually be working on some current projects...but...it's a half day and probably half the people I should be contacting are either out of the office are killing time before they can travel to their weekend destinations.
Three quarters of the year down and one to go. How about that? This year flew by and it definitely seemed like a last week when I celebrated my 23rd birthday. But no...I turned 24. Where did that year go? Self-reflection at the end of the summer? Nah...I won't get that deep, but it's worth saying that I've weighed a lot of my options and have made some major decisions regarding the family, life and school. Yes, again.
Before I get into all that...I miss dancing. Since I've started on this MBA trip, I put dancing on the backseat. I watched So You Think You Can Dance all summer and said to myself that I'm almost as good if not better than about 40 percent of the top 20. I remember the auditions in New York that I wasn't able to go to because of a snow storm at that time. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
I've been part of the breathe. team for a year now and I've looked back on the gigs we've done. From hustlin' to be backup dancers...to performing in front of friends and family at those tri-state Filipino events...it's been fun. The rush of performing is unmatched in my book. Better than sex, but then again it's been a while since I've gotten any play so I really wouldn't remember what that's like.
Dancing is key. The key to a lot of the friendships I've made over the past 10 years. Dancing for PUSO at Stony Brook (PDC-PUSO Dance Crew)...practices from September to May, 4 days a week for hours at a time, after class and homework was done of course. Plus we lived in the dorms together, partied together, had class together, performed together...if that doesn't make a group of people tighter, then I don't know what will.
I guess I'm bringing this up because I had a dream I was a back-up dancer for J-Timbo. Stop. It's just all the Justin routines PDC has done...every single year since that damn album came out. They're still doing Justin routines at Stony... Filipinos and Justin. There's no escaping it.
The artist that would be the end all for me would be Janet. Her choreography is SICK. And to be part of her tour cast would be a dream come true. This is all based on watching and rewinding her videos searching for moves, the HBO concert in Hawaii and MTV Icon.
If you were to ask me what my favorite videos were...I'd give you a good rundown and analysis.
"All For You" by Janet: Video was sort of animated, sort of not, but the breakdown in the middle was used in the freshman year mix.
"Case of the Ex" by Mya: Props, sliding, battling...this was pretty dope.
"Free" by Mya: The moves in this video were intense and intricate. Formations and costumes added to the whole effect.
"Like I Love You" by Justin: PDC rehearsed the choreography for this ENTIRE video endlessly for our Asian Night 2003 "Jade Fobson Project" skit. We still know it like the back of our hands whenever we hear it in the club.
"Are You That Somebody?" by Aaliyah: Who didn't know this in high school? Aside from the beats that changed the game...the moves were so simple but it looked hot.
This stream of conscience writing is sucking. And to think that I wanted to become a journalist back in the day.
